Corten steel: rust, patina & care
Will it arrive rusty? No. Corten pieces ship as raw steel and build their rust patina once they're outdoors. Rain and humidity speed it up.
Can I speed it up? Yes. Our patina & care guide shows how with household vinegar and salt.
Will it stain my patio? While the patina forms, runoff can carry rust onto concrete or pavers. Set pieces on gravel or soil, or use one of our matching trays, for the first season.
Does it need sealing? No. The patina protects the steel underneath. Sealing is optional if you want to lock in a color or use a piece indoors.
